Latest reading: Economic sentiment dropped to 94.1 in January, following December’s 97.5. The latest reading was below the long-term average of 100, pointing to a muted near-term outlook for the economy.
In January, sentiment worsened in the industrial sector (-0.6 vs +3.6 in December), the construction sector (-5.3 vs +0.3 in December), the services sector (+0.3 vs +4.0 in December), the retail sector (+9.6 vs +14.0 in December) and among consumers (-25.1 vs -23.6 in December).
