Spain: Inflation picks up in February from January
Latest reading: Harmonized consumer prices rose 2.5% on a year-on-year basis in February, following a 2.4% increase in the previous month.
Relative to the prior month’s figures, there were higher price pressures for food and non-alcoholic beverages (+3.2% in annual terms vs +3.0% in January), transportation (+0.6% vs +0.4% in January) and restaurants and hotels (+4.9% vs +4.6% in January). In contrast, there were milder price pressures for housing and utilities (+1.9% vs +2.8% in January) and recreation (+2.9% vs +3.6% in January).
Meanwhile, consumer prices rose 2.3% in February, unchanged from the prior month’s reading.
Lastly, harmonized consumer prices increased 0.43% in February in month-on-month terms, following a 0.75% fall in the previous month.
