Spain: Retail sales return to growth in January
Latest reading: Retail sales were up 0.1% on a working-day and seasonally adjusted month-on-month basis in January, following a 0.9% decline in the prior month.
Relative to the prior month’s data, readings in January improved for large chain stores (+0.7% in working-day and seasonally adjusted month-on-month terms vs -0.8% in December) and small chain stores (-1.2% vs -1.9% in December). In contrast, the reading for single retail stores softened in January (-0.5% vs -0.4% in December).
On a year-on-year basis, retail sales rose 4.0% in January, following 2.8% growth in the prior month.
