Taiwan: Inflation decelerates in January from the prior month
Latest reading: Consumer prices rose 0.7% on a year-on-year basis in January, following a 1.3% rise in the previous month. January’s reading was the weakest since January 2021.
Relative to the prior month’s figures, there were reduced price pressures for food (+1.2% in annual terms vs +1.3% in December), housing (+1.8% vs +1.9% in December), transportation (-2.0% vs -1.3% in December) and education and entertainment (-1.0% vs +1.7% in December).
Lastly, consumer prices were down 0.04% in January on a month-on-month basis, following a 0.06% increase in the prior month.
