Latest reading: Economic sentiment went down to 99.2 in January, following December’s 100.1. The latest reading was below the long-term average of 100, pointing to a muted near-term outlook for the economy.
In January, sentiment worsened in the industrial sector (0.0 vs +1.7 in December) and the retail sector (+12.7 vs +14.0 in December). In contrast, sentiment improved in the construction sector (-13.9 vs -14.6 in December), the services sector (+21.6 vs +20.9 in December) and among consumers (-16.5 vs -16.6 in December).
