United Kingdom: Inflation stabilizes in February
Latest reading: Consumer prices were up 3.0% on a year-on-year basis in February, unchanged from the prior month’s reading. February’s reading was the joint-weakest since March 2025 but was still above the Bank of England’s 2.0% target.
Relative to the prior month’s figures, there were milder price pressures for recreation and culture (+2.5% vs +2.6% in January), transportation (+2.4% vs +2.6% in January) and food and non-alcoholic beverages (+3.3% vs +3.5% in January). In contrast, price pressures rose for clothing.
Meanwhile, core consumer prices increased 3.2% in annual terms in February, following a 3.0% rise in the prior month.
Lastly, consumer prices rose 0.42% in February in month-on-month terms, following a 0.46% fall in the prior month.
