Uruguay: Inflation ebbs in March from February
Latest reading: Consumer prices rose 2.9% in annual terms in March, following a 3.1% rise in the prior month. March’s print was the weakest since August 1956.
Relative to the previous month’s figures, there were reduced price pressures for food and non-alcoholic beverages (+2.4% on a year-on-year basis vs +4.3% in February) and clothing and footwear (-4.3% vs -3.9% in February). In contrast, price pressures were higher for transportation in March (-2.2% vs -3.6% in February). Finally, the variation in housing prices was the same as in the prior month (+4.0% in March and February).
Finally, consumer prices rose 0.41% in March on a month-on-month basis, following a 0.35% rise in the previous month.
