Uruguay: Inflation hits an over-decade low in January
Latest reading: Consumer prices rose 3.5% in annual terms in January, following a 3.6% rise in the previous month. January’s reading was the weakest since August 2005.
Relative to the previous month’s data, there were milder price pressures for clothing and footwear (-3.3% on a year-on-year basis vs -2.6% in December) and transportation (-3.5% vs -1.4% in December). In contrast, there were more notable price pressures for food and non-alcoholic beverages (+4.7% vs +4.5% in December) and housing (+5.4% vs +4.1% in December).
Lastly, consumer prices were up 0.92% in January in month-on-month terms, following a 0.09% fall in the previous month.
