Vietnam: Industrial production accelerates in January
Latest reading: Industrial production rose 21.5% in annual terms in January, following a 10.1% increase in the previous month. January’s reading was the strongest since April 2021, supported by an improvement in new orders and a favorable calendar effect. The latter reflected the fact that the Lunar New Year fell on February this year instead of on January as was the case last year, in turn giving January 2026 six more working days than a year earlier.
Relative to the prior month’s figures, readings in January improved for manufacturing (+23.6% on a year-on-year basis vs +10.9% in December), electricity (+14.1% vs +11.2% in December), mining and quarrying (+10.3% vs +0.2% in December) and water supply (+13.6% vs +6.3% in December).
