Inflation decelerates in January from the prior month
Latest reading: Consumer prices rose 1.0% in annual terms in January, following a 1.7% increase in the prior month. January's reading was the weakest since December 2009. Relative to the previous month's data, there were reduced price pressures for food and alcoholic beverages (+1.9% in annual terms vs +2.1% in December) and housing, electricity, water and fuels (-1.6% vs +1.3% in December). Finally, the variation in clothing and footwear prices was the same as in the prior month (+0.8% in January and December). Lastly, consumer prices fell 0.18% in January in month-on-month terms, following a 0.07% rise in the previous month.
