Inflation rises in March from the prior month
Latest reading: Consumer prices were up 2.5% on a year-on-year basis in March, following a 1.5% increase in the previous month. March's reading was the strongest since August 2024. Relative to the prior month's figures, price pressures were higher for food and alcoholic beverages in March (+3.4% in annual terms vs +2.9% in February). In contrast, there were milder price pressures for housing, electricity, water and fuels (+0.2% vs +0.3% in February) and clothing and footwear (+0.7% vs +0.8% in February). Finally, consumer prices increased 1.03% in March on a month-on-month basis, following a 0.33% rise in the prior month.
