Taiwan: Inflation eases in August from July

Latest reading: Consumer prices increased 2.0% in annual terms in August, following a 2.5% increase in the previous month.

Relative to the previous month’s figures, price pressures reduced for food in August (+0.8% in annual terms vs +2.5% in July). In contrast, price pressures were higher for transportation in August (+2.8% vs +2.7% in July). Finally, the changes in education and entertainment and housing were the same as in the prior month (+3.2% and +2.3%, respectively).

Lastly, consumer prices were down 0.01% in August in month-on-month terms, following a 0.33% increase in the previous month.
