Inflation ebbs in February from January

Latest reading: Consumer prices increased 4.2% in annual terms in February, following a 4.4% increase in the previous month. February's reading was the weakest since July 2025, and undershot market expectations, giving the Central Bank additional room to cut interest rates. Relative to the previous month's data, there were milder price pressures for housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels (+1.8% on a year-on-year basis vs +2.2% in January) and transportation (+4.0% vs +4.8% in January). Finally, the changes in clothing and food and non-alcoholic beverages were the same as in the prior month (+2.0% and +7.3%, respectively). Finally, consumer prices rose 0.16% in February in month-on-month terms, following a 0.64% rise in the previous month.
