Inflation rises in March
Latest reading: Consumer prices rose 4.4% on a year-on-year basis in March, following a 4.2% increase in the prior month. Despite the uptick, inflation remained well within the Central Bank’s 2.5–7.5% target band. Relative to the previous month's data, there were higher price pressures for food and non-alcoholic beverages (+7.7% in annual terms vs +7.3% in February) plus housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels (+2.0% vs +1.8% in February). In contrast, there were milder price pressures for transportation (+3.8% vs +4.0% in February) and clothing (+1.8% vs +2.0% in February). Lastly, consumer prices increased 0.54% in March on a month-on-month basis, following a 0.16% increase in the prior month.
