Industrial production contracts in April
Latest reading: Industrial production declined 2.6% in calendar and seasonally adjusted month-on-month terms in April, following a 4.3% rise in the previous month. Relative to the previous month's data, readings in April worsened for manufacturing (-0.8% on a calendar and seasonally adjusted month-on-month basis vs +6.0% in March), electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply (-12.6% vs -6.4% in March) and mining and quarrying (-3.9% vs +23.3% in March). On a working-day and seasonally adjusted year-on-year basis, industrial production flatlined in April, following 4.1% growth in the previous month.
