Industrial production contracts less quickly in January
Latest reading: Industrial production declined 0.4% on a working-day and seasonally adjusted month-on-month basis in January, following a 2.4% drop in the previous month. Relative to the previous month's figures, readings in January improved for consumer goods (-1.3% on a working-day and seasonally adjusted month-on-month basis vs -1.8% in December), capital goods (-0.2% vs -2.9% in December), intermediate goods (-1.3% vs -2.9% in December) and energy (+1.5% vs 0.0% in December). In working-day and seasonally adjusted year-on-year terms, industrial production was up 0.3% in January, following a 0.3% drop in the prior month.
