Industrial production falls at softer clip in August
Latest reading: Industrial production fell 0.1% in working day and seasonally adjusted month-on-month terms in August, following a 0.4% fall in the previous month. Relative to the prior month's data, readings in August improved for consumer goods (+0.2% on a working day and seasonally adjusted month-on-month basis vs -0.1% in July), capital goods (+2.6% vs -2.9% in July) and energy (-0.7% vs -2.5% in July). In contrast, the reading for intermediate goods softened in August (-1.5% vs +0.1% in July). On a working day and seasonally adjusted year-on-year basis, industrial production increased 3.4% in August, following a 2.7% rise in the prior month.
