Retail sales rebound in December
Latest reading: Retail sales increased 1.0% in seasonally adjusted month-on-month terms in December, following a 0.1% drop in the prior month. Relative to the prior month's figures, readings in December improved for food, beverages, and tobacco (+1.7% in seasonally adjusted month-on-month terms vs -0.7% in November) and household equipment (+4.4% vs -0.7% in November). In contrast, the reading for automotive fuel worsened in December (-1.1% vs +0.3% in November). On a calendar-adjusted year-on-year basis, retail sales increased 2.9% in December, following 1.7% growth in the previous month.
