Retail sales accelerate in January
Latest reading: Retail sales increased 1.8% in seasonally adjusted month-on-month terms in January, following 0.4% growth in the prior month. January's reading was the strongest since May 2024 and was well above market expectations, thanks to strong demand in non-food and online stores. In annual terms, retail sales rose 4.5% in January, following a 1.8% rise in the prior month.
