Japan: Merchandise exports accelerate in May from the prior month
Latest reading: In July, the trade balance was JPY -0.6 trillion, down from the prior month’s JPY -0.4 trillion. Over the last 12 months, the trade balance summed to JPY -2.1 trillion.
Yen-denominated exports were up 23.2% in year-on-year terms in July, up from June’s 19.3% expansion.
Finally, yen-denominated imports rose 27.8% year-on-year in July, up from June’s 25.4% increase.
