Turkey: Inflation picks up in May from April
Latest reading: Consumer prices rose 32.6% on a year-on-year basis in May, following a 32.4% rise in the previous month. May’s reading was the strongest since October 2025.
Relative to the previous month’s figures, there were higher price pressures for food and non-alcoholic beverages (+34.9% in annual terms vs +34.5% in April), restaurants and hotels (+31.6% vs +31.5% in April) and clothing and footwear (+14.1% vs +9.7% in April). In contrast, there were reduced price pressures for transport (+34.3% vs +35.1% in April) and housing and utilities (+45.6% vs +46.6% in April).
Meanwhile, core consumer prices were up 30.4% in annual terms in May, following a 29.8% increase in the prior month.
Finally, consumer prices rose 1.71% in May on a month-on-month basis, following a 4.18% rise in the previous month.
