Decline in consumer prices softens in May
Latest reading: Consumer prices fell 1.0% in annual terms in May, following a 1.6% decline in the prior month. Relative to the previous month's figures, there were higher price pressures for transportation (+0.6% on a year-on-year basis vs -3.7% in April) and housing (-1.2% vs -1.5% in April). Meanwhile, the variation in food and non-alcoholic beverages prices was the same as in the prior month (-3.9% in May and April). Lastly, consumer prices were up 0.27% in May in month-on-month terms, following a 0.04% fall in the prior month.
