Inflation decelerates in May from April

Latest reading: Consumer prices were up 10.4% in annual terms in May, following a 10.6% rise in the previous month. May's reading was the weakest since March 2025. Relative to the prior month's figures, there were milder price pressures for food and non-alcoholic beverages (+10.6% on a year-on-year basis vs +11.2% in April), health (+13.8% vs +14.8% in April) and restaurants and hotels (+11.5% vs +12.0% in April). In contrast, price pressures were higher for housing and utilities in May (+5.6% vs +5.3% in April). Finally, the change in transportation prices was the same as in the prior month (+12.8% in May and April). Lastly, consumer prices were up 0.66% in May in month-on-month terms, following a 0.84% rise in the previous month.
