Inflation picks up in March from the prior month
Latest reading: Harmonized consumer prices increased 4.4% in annual terms in March, following a 3.3% rise in the previous month. March's reading was the strongest since August 2023. Relative to the previous month's data, there were higher price pressures for transportation (+7.2% in annual terms vs -0.9% in February), housing and utilities (+6.6% vs +4.4% in February), recreation (+6.1% vs +5.7% in February) and restaurants and hotels (+6.2% vs +5.9% in February). In contrast, price pressures reduced for food and non-alcoholic beverages in March (+2.7% vs +4.4% in February). Meanwhile, consumer prices increased 4.8% in annual terms in March, following a 3.6% rise in the previous month. Finally, harmonized consumer prices were up 1.46% in March in month-on-month terms, following a 1.02% rise in the previous month.
