Australia: Employment rebounds in May
Latest reading: Australia’s workforce expanded by 40,300 in May 2026, bringing total employment to 14.74 million and surpassing market expectations for a 30,000 gain. That followed April’s revised decline of 40,700. The May increase was driven mainly by a 35,200 rise in part-time employment, while full-time employment rose by 5,200.
Finally, the unemployment rate dipped from 4.5% in April to 4.4% in May.
