Belgium: Inflation picks up in April from the prior month
Latest reading: Harmonized consumer prices rose 4.2% on a year-on-year basis in April, following a 2.2% increase in the prior month. April’s reading was the strongest since February 2025.
Relative to the prior month’s figures, there were higher price pressures for food and non-alcoholic beverages (+1.3% on a year-on-year basis vs -0.8% in March), transportation (+9.3% vs +6.7% in March), housing and utilities (+7.7% vs +0.6% in March), recreation (+4.6% vs +3.2% in March) and restaurants and hotels (+4.1% vs +3.7% in March).
Meanwhile, consumer prices rose 4.0% in annual terms in April, following a 1.6% rise in the prior month.
Finally, harmonized consumer prices increased 1.32% in April in month-on-month terms, following a 0.31% rise in the previous month.
