Brazil: Inflation eases in February
Latest reading: Consumer prices increased 3.8% in annual terms in February, following a 4.4% rise in the prior month. February’s reading was the weakest since April 2024.
Relative to the previous month’s figures, there were milder price pressures for food and beverages (+1.8% on a year-on-year basis vs +2.2% in January) and housing and utilities (+5.7% vs +10.1% in January). In contrast, there were more notable price pressures for transportation (+2.5% vs +2.4% in January), clothing (+5.0% vs +4.9% in January) and education (+6.5% vs +6.0% in January).
Meanwhile, core consumer prices were up 4.9% in annual terms in February, following a 5.4% increase in the prior month.
Lastly, consumer prices were up 0.70% in February in month-on-month terms, following a 0.33% increase in the prior month.
