France: Economic sentiment improves in May
Latest reading: Economic sentiment rose to 92.4 in May, following April’s 91.5. The latest reading was below the long-term average of 100, pointing to a muted near-term outlook for the economy.
In May, sentiment improved in the industrial sector (-6.8 vs -8.2 in April), the construction sector (-17.2 vs -18.0 in April) and among consumers (-21.2 vs -21.8 in April). However, sentiment worsened in the services sector (-6.0 vs -5.5 in April) and the retail sector (-15.9 vs -14.8 in April).
