France: Inflation picks up in July from the prior month
Latest reading: Harmonized consumer prices increased 2.4% on a year-on-year basis in July, following a 2.0% rise in the previous month.
Relative to the prior month’s figures, there were higher price pressures for food and non-alcoholic beverages (+1.0% on a year-on-year basis vs +0.9% in June), transportation (+5.5% vs +5.1% in June), housing and utilities (+3.2% vs +2.7% in June) and restaurants and hotels (+3.3% vs +2.8% in June). Finally, the change in recreation prices was the same as in the prior month (-0.5% in July and June).
Meanwhile, consumer prices increased 2.1% on a year-on-year basis in July, following a 1.8% rise in the prior month.
Finally, harmonized consumer prices increased 0.63% in July in month-on-month terms, following a 0.34% decline in the previous month.
