Germany: Economic sentiment drops in April
Latest reading: Economic sentiment fell to 88.5 in April, following March’s 92.4. The latest reading was below the long-term average of 100, pointing to a muted near-term outlook for the economy and the lowest since January 2025.
In April, sentiment darkened in the construction sector (-12.3 vs -10.4 in March), the services sector (-1.7 vs +5.3 in March), the retail sector (-31.4 vs -25.5 in March) and among consumers (-18.0 vs -13.9 in March). On the flipside, sentiment turned more upbeat in the industrial sector (-14.5 vs -14.7 in March).
