Indonesia: Retail sales contract in April
Latest reading: Retail sales fell 1.9% on a year-on-year basis in April, following 3.4% growth in the prior month and marking the weakest reading in two years.
Relative to the previous month’s figures, readings in April worsened for food, beverages, and tobacco (-2.1% on a year-on-year basis vs +4.7% in March), automotive fuels (-2.8% vs +2.1% in March), information and communication equipment (-27.7% vs -26.4% in March) and cultural and recreation goods (-1.1% vs +14.8% in March). In contrast, the reading for motor vehicles, parts and accessories improved in April (+18.8% vs +15.5% in March).
