Malaysia: Merchandise trade surplus widens in March
Latest reading: In March, the trade balance was USD +6.2 billion, following a USD +4.3 billion figure in the prior month. This was the largest surplus since June 2023. Over the last 12 months, the trade balance summed to USD +43.0 billion.
Merchandise exports rose 21.7% in annual terms in March, coming on the back of 25.8% growth in the previous month. Merchandise imports rose 24.0% in year-on-year terms in March, following 22.8% growth in the prior month. March’s reading was the strongest since April 2025.
