Mexico: Inflation decelerates in June from May
Latest reading: Consumer prices increased 3.4% in annual terms in June, following a 3.9% increase in the previous month. June’s reading was the weakest since December 2020.
Relative to the prior month’s data, there were reduced price pressures for food, beverages and tobacco (+2.6% on a year-on-year basis vs +4.3% in May), transportation (+3.4% vs +3.5% in May) and clothing, footwear and accessories (+1.8% vs +2.8% in May). In contrast, there were more notable price pressures for housing (+3.2% vs +3.1% in May) and education and recreation (+3.4% vs +3.3% in May).
Meanwhile, core consumer prices increased 4.0% in annual terms in June, following a 4.2% increase in the previous month.
Lastly, consumer prices fell 0.27% in June in month-on-month terms, following a 0.21% fall in the previous month.
