Spain: Inflation accelerates in April from March
Latest reading: Harmonized consumer prices rose 3.5% in annual terms in April, following a 3.4% rise in the previous month. April’s reading was the strongest since June 2024.
Relative to the previous month’s data, price pressures were higher for transportation in April (+7.0% in annual terms vs +6.0% in March). In contrast, there were milder price pressures for food and non-alcoholic beverages (+2.6% vs +2.7% in March), housing and utilities (+1.8% vs +3.7% in March) and recreation (+1.3% vs +3.7% in March). Finally, the change in restaurants and hotels prices was the same as in the prior month (+4.8% in April and March).
Meanwhile, consumer prices increased 3.2% in April, following a 3.4% increase in the prior month.
Finally, harmonized consumer prices rose 0.70% in April on a month-on-month basis, following a 1.66% rise in the prior month.
