Inflation accelerates in August from July
Latest reading: Consumer prices rose 6.6% on a year-on-year basis in August, following a 6.5% increase in the previous month. Relative to the prior month's figures, there were higher price pressures for housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels (+3.6% on a year-on-year basis vs +3.2% in July) and transportation (+15.7% vs +15.6% in July). Finally, the variations in clothing and food and non-alcoholic beverages were the same as in the prior month (+2.2% and +9.0%, respectively). Lastly, consumer prices were up 0.42% in August on a month-on-month basis, following a 0.19% rise in the previous month.
