Latest reading: Australia’s workforce contracted by 18,600 in April 2026, bringing total employment down to 14.74 million and contrasting market expectations for a gain. That followed March’s revised gain of 23,300. The April fall was driven by declines in both full-time and part-time employment, with full-time employment down 10,700 and part-time employment down 7,900.
