Costa Rica: Economic activity accelerates in January
Latest reading: Economic activity increased 3.6% on a year-on-year basis in January, following a 3.3% rise in the previous month.
Relative to the prior month’s data, readings in January improved for agriculture, forestry and fishing (+3.9% on a year-on-year basis vs +2.0% in December), manufacturing (+4.1% vs +1.9% in December), the construction sector (+2.6% vs +0.8% in December) and domestic trade (+2.7% vs +2.3% in December). In contrast, the reading for information and communication softened in January (+4.7% vs +4.8% in December).
On a seasonally adjusted month-on-month basis, economic activity rose 0.7% in January, following a 1.8% fall in the prior month.
