Ireland: Industrial production returns to growth in February
Latest reading: Industrial production was up 5.7% in seasonally adjusted month-on-month terms in February, following a 9.7% fall in the previous month.
Relative to the prior month’s figures, readings in February improved for modern sector (+7.7% in seasonally adjusted month-on-month terms vs -11.2% in January) and traditional sector (+2.0% vs -1.2% in January).
The modern sector’s output tends to be volatile—even more so now as U.S. tariffs wreak havoc on trade flows—due to the presence of multinational-dominated industries, such as chemicals, pharmaceuticals and computers and electronics.
In annual terms, industrial production declined 9.8% in February, following a 7.8% decline in the prior month.
