Malaysia: Inflation rises in April from the prior month
Latest reading: Consumer prices increased 1.9% in annual terms in April, following a 1.7% increase in the prior month. April’s reading was the strongest since July 2024.
Relative to the prior month’s data, there were higher price pressures for food and non-alcoholic beverages (+1.2% in annual terms vs +1.1% in March) and transportation (+4.1% vs +1.6% in March). In contrast, there were reduced price pressures for housing and utilities (+1.1% vs +1.2% in March) and recreation services and culture (+0.9% vs +1.0% in March).
Lastly, consumer prices rose 0.37% in April on a month-on-month basis, following a 0.29% rise in the previous month.
