United Kingdom: Retail sales fall in April
Latest reading: Retail sales fell 1.3% in seasonally adjusted month-on-month terms in April, following 0.6% growth in the prior month. April’s reading was the weakest since May 2025 and a sharper fall than markets expected. The fall was mainly driven by slumping fuel sales as motorists made fewer journeys and delayed refueling amid higher pump prices.
In annual terms, retail sales flatlined in April, following a 1.5% increase in the previous month.
