Vietnam: Inflation rises in April from the prior month
Latest reading: Consumer prices were up 5.5% on a year-on-year basis in April, following a 4.7% rise in the prior month. April’s reading was the strongest since January 2020.
Relative to the previous month’s data, there were higher price pressures for transportation (+9.1% in annual terms vs +8.9% in March), education (+10.1% vs +10.0% in March) and housing and construction materials (+6.7% vs +4.6% in March). In contrast, price pressures reduced for food in April (+4.1% vs +4.3% in March).
Finally, consumer prices were up 0.84% in April in month-on-month terms, following a 1.23% rise in the previous month.
