Agricultural prices increased 3.4% month on month in September, following August’s 0.9% fall.
Agricultural prices rose for the first time in seven months in September. Five of the nine agricultural commodities tracked by our panelists traded higher month on month than in August, pushing aggregate prices for the agricultural complex to a three-month high. Grains set the tone in September, with corn, soybeans and wheat all regaining ground from their prior month’s declines, but still remaining below recent levels as U.S. protectionism has tempered demand. Coffee traded higher month on month amid looming supply concerns and palm oil prices ticked up on resilient demand. In contrast, prices for cocoa, cotton, rice and sugar dipped from August.
