Rice prices averaged USD 419 per metric ton in December, up 16.5% from November. On 31 December, the commodity traded at USD 430 per metric ton, up 10.5% from 28 November.
In December, rice prices jumped to a six-month high. Stronger demand supported prices, while climate shocks in Asia sparked supply concerns. Still, prices for the commodity remained below recent-year levels, restrained by India’s swelling inventories and its return to the global market after a prolonged export ban.
