Aluminium prices averaged USD 2,652 per metric ton in March, down 0.2% from February. On 31 March, the commodity traded at USD 2,518 per metric ton, down 3.9% from 28 February.
On 12 March, the highly anticipated 25% U.S. tariffs on all aluminium imports came into force. This drove an increase in U.S. premiums. That said, LME prices receded in past weeks, dented by heightened trade tensions and U.S. tariff announcements. Moreover, rising output in China in January–February likely depressed prices further. That said, in March, China’s factory activity strengthened and country officials announced several stimulus policies, capping the price decline.
