Steel (Europe) prices averaged USD 718 per metric ton in December, up 1.7% from November. On 31 December, the commodity traded at USD 735 per metric ton, up 4.3% from 28 November.
A fifth consecutive increase in average prices in December lifted the metal’s full-year gain to just over 20%. The rise was likely catalyzed by the frontloading of steel purchases ahead of the Cross-Border Carbon Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) from 1 January 2026. The EU’s pledge to raise defense spending further supported prices.
