Steel (USA) prices averaged USD 832 per metric ton in August, down 5.0% from July. On 29 August, the commodity traded at USD 793 per metric ton, down 5.8% from 31 July.
Prices declined in August due to downbeat demand. The market is pricing in a tariff of 20–30%, instead of the current 50% rate, since domestic inventories remained elevated and steel mill lead times were near a four-year low. Meanwhile, domestic production rose, adding further downward pressure on prices.
