Coking coal prices averaged USD 192 per metric ton in May, up 5.9% from April. On 30 May, the commodity traded at USD 195 per metric ton, up 2.6% from 30 April.
Prices rose for the second month running. The uptick was likely a blip, driven largely by rail closures and port delays caused by floods near Australia’s main coal port. That said, prices remain muted—near their lowest level since the onset of the global energy crisis in 2021.
