Coking coal prices averaged USD 187 per metric ton in September, up 0.4% from August. On 30 September, the commodity traded at USD 190 per metric ton, up 2.7% from 29 August.
As has been generally the case over the past year, Australian thermal coal prices were little changed in September, remaining at some of the weakest levels since the pandemic. Chinese steel production remains tepid, with the purchasing managers’ index of the sector slinking back into contractionary terrain in September.
