Natural gas U.S. prices averaged USD 3.15 per MMBtu in February, down 24.1% from January. On 27 February, the commodity traded at USD 2.86 per MMBtu, down 35.3% from 30 January.
U.S. natural gas prices approached early 2024’s post-pandemic lows in February. Unlike crude or Asian and European gas, prices were largely unaffected by concerns about a possible U.S.-Iran war; they continued to be driven by domestic factors, including milder weather boosting supply and reducing demand. U.S. exporters of LNG, despite massively ramping up capacity in recent years, are operating near full utilization, giving them limited scope to respond to the war going forward.
