Natural gas EU prices averaged USD 11.67 per MMBtu in May, up 0.7% from April. On 30 May, the commodity traded at USD 11.39 per MMBtu, up 5.8% from 30 April.
Prices increased following sharp declines in March and April. Supplies were strained by maintenance work in top provider Norway, while the EU pressed ahead with plans to quit Russian gas. On the demand side, the EU lowered its winter storage target, freeing up gas for the summer.
