Austria: Economic sentiment rises in January
Latest reading: Economic sentiment rose to 88.7 in January from December’s 84.8. January’s result marked the strongest sentiment since May 2024. That said, the index remained entrenched below the long-term average of 100, pointing to a muted near-term outlook for the economy.
The headline print reflected stronger sentiment in the industrial and retail trade sectors and strengthened confidence in the services sector. That said, sentiment in the construction sector and among consumers waned.
Relating to indicators that are not used to calculate the index, employment expectations improved, while the economic uncertainty index decreased in January.
