Austria: Industrial output declines in December
Latest reading: Industrial output fell 2.8% in seasonally adjusted month-on-month terms in December, deteriorating from November’s 1.8% decrease and marking the worst reading since January. Looking at the details of the release, the deterioration reflected a sharp contraction in capital goods production. On the flipside, durable and non-durable consumer goods output posted stronger readings.
On an annual basis, industrial output plunged 9.6% in December (November: -4.5% yoy), the worst result since May 2020. Accordingly, the trend pointed down, with the annual average variation of industrial production coming in at minus 4.0% in December, down from November’s minus 3.1%.
